2007: The Screws Go In, The Screws Come Out

2007 has been a very interesting year. As with all years, it has had its fair share of ups and downs. And speaking of "downs", some of you might recall that last January my wife Denyse had a nasty fall that resulted in a fractured hip.  You can review the whole story here, but basically the hip bone was fractured at the head and the orthopedist surgically installed 3 screws in the hip bone to stabilize it.

2007 Recap

I thought I would throw together some of my favorite articles from the past year. Here they are:

The Best Story I have ever Heard
I’m a pretty tough guy. Well, maybe not, but at least I look tough. Well, maybe not. In any event, when I heard this story at my gym in North Hollywood, it took every ounce of testosterone in my exceptionally masculine body to not cry like a baby. I was told the story by one of my trainers, Brandon, who worked part time at Universal Studios in Southern California as Captain America. This was probably best story I had heard in my life, and now I will tell it to you and do my best to do it justice.  FULL STORY

Equal Time

A Zen Moment From Carter Fitness:

It came to me just now, an important truth we all seem to forget. In this season of giving, be sure to reserve some of that giving for yourself. I see it all too frequently in my new clients: People who spend the vast majority of their time taking care of others, but spending little time taking care of themselves. What we often fail to realize is that if we take care of ourselves, there is more of us to give to others. So make the effort in the next few weeks to take some time for yourself. Whether that be working out, reading a good book, getting a massage, meditating or whatever. Anything that makes you feel relaxed, calm and good about yourself. Retreat in your own way, if only for a few moments- it is important. Normal life will be there when you get back, and it just might be a little bit easier to deal with.
